Week 44: New images from the wall coming soon!

Many of the diagnostic systems on JET are being upgraded during this year, but there are a few completely new systems that are currently being manufactured. One of these gives new visible and infrared views of a large area of the divertor. This system is known in JET jargon as ‘KL11′ and it will be installed during the last week of the shutdown.

Week 43: As clean as a whistle

The shutdown has entered the phase of cleaning the vessel prior to the fitting of the ITER-Like Wall of beryllium and tungsten tiles. This involves removing all dust and debris, most of which is carbon from the previous generation of tiles.

Week 42: A milestone!

We have now reached a milestone in the shutdown! This week, the first plasma-facing component of the new ITER-Like Wall has been installed. Until now most of the tasks have been related to the removal of components, surveying the bare vessel and preparing for the new items to arrive.

Szkolenie z fuzji jądrowej w Oksfordzie i Londynie, 16 – 22 czerwca 2010

W dniach 16 – 22 czerwca 2010 roku Krajowy Punkt Kontaktowy Euratom-IFPiLM zorganizował szkolenie z zakresu fizyki jądrowej w Oksfordzie i Londynie na terenie Wielkiej Brytanii. Uczestnicy szkolenia, uczniowie szkół ponadgimnazjalnych z całej Polski (laureaci ogólnopolskiego konkursu o fuzji) i ich nauczyciele przebywali w ośrodkach naukowych w okolicach Oksfordu (16 - 20 czerwca) i Londynu (20 - 22 czerwca).

Piękna antymateria po raz pierwszy w eksperymencie LHCb

Aparatura detekcyjna eksperymentu LHCb, jednego z czterech najważniejszych przy Wielkim Zderzaczu Hadronów (LHC), zaobserwowała rozpad mezonu pięknego. Detekcja jest kolejnym krokiem na drodze do odkrycia w przyszłości nowych, nieznanych współczesnej fizyce zjawisk - poinformował rzecznik Instytutu Problemów Jądrowych (IPJ) w Świerku, dr Marek Pawłowski.
